Did you know………..
The way we think about our health is changing. More and more, we’re being encouraged to pay more attention to our health all the time, and not just when we get sick. When we talk about primary health care, what we mean is the sort of health care that helps people to live healthy lives and prevent getting serious conditions and diseases later on in life. Good primary health care is about developing good health, as well as treating people who are sick.
Getting regular health checks from your family GP or local practice is one easy way to pick up early warning signs for a whole range of serious diseases. In this way, your GP and/or other allied health professionals (like practice nurses, physiotherapists, dietitians and so on) can work with you to find ways to prevent any problems getting worse. If you already have a chronic condition or serious disease, then your GP is the best person to work with on managing your condition and improving your quality of life.
It’s important that everyone has some level of understanding about some of the major health risks, whether it’s just a basic knowledge of some of the things you can do every day to improve your health, or whether it’s actively searching out important information for you and your family.
The information on the following pages will give you a short introduction to some of the main health problems for people of all ages, some simple things you can do to find out your risk level, and some places to look for more information.
